Michaelmas Term Wins

Your Sabbatical Officers and the SU Team have been busy working on lots of different projects this past term, here's a look at some of Cambridge SU's wins for students!

  • Ran the largest Freshers’ Fair event to date with over 350 society stalls

  • The U-bus will now stop at Homerton and Girton from 2023, after 5 years of student campaigning.

  • Ran safeguarding training and DBS checks for over 100 Mentors for the Shadowing Scheme taking place in February.

  • Published a support for student sex workers guide, which can be accessed on our website: www.cambridgesu.co.uk/advice/information/wellbeing/#student-sex-workers

  • Released the 2022 Living Wage Table, revealing which Colleges pay their staff below Living Wage

  • Ran lots of successful events throughout term, including Postgraduate Networking, SU Campaign events and the Bridgemas Extravaganza

  • We published our report on the experiences of intermitting students, which is the largest bank of information of this kind that has come out of the University.

  • The majority of College May Balls, June Events and Spring Balls have signed the Access-a-Ball Pledge, committing to make their events accessible.

  • We've worked with students to ensure that our Student Council is an engaging and accessible space for our members, and will continue this next term

  • Recruited a new Director of Commercial and Services, who will lead on creating more spaces and opportunities for students

  • Ran successful focus groups to get student involvement with the Greater Cambridge Partnership consultations. This is a fantastic scheme that will improve our buses, make them cheaper and more frequent, more cycle ways, and better street lighting. There is still time to fill it out here: https://consultcambs.uk.engagementhq.com/making-connections-2022

  • Spoke at a meeting with the heads of schools and the Cambridge Centre for Teaching and Learning (CCTL). They are now working on changing supervision structures so postgraduate students are supported and have multiple points of contact in case of a relationship breakdown.

  • The Student Advice Service has supported 233 students during Michaelmas Term, along with running numerous successful pop-ups across University sites.

  • Ran our first Interfaith Week full of events in which we facilitated opportunities to chat, socialise and learn with people of different faith communities.

We’ve made some great progress on our goals for the year and are looking forward to enhancing the student experience at Cambridge further next term.
