Michaelmas Elections: Nominations now open!

Featured news

In Michaelmas term we elect Academic Reps in faculties, departments and schools, as well as delegates to the National Union of Students Conference and positions on several of our campaign executive committees.

This year, with all the new challenges faced by students in every part of our University and others, it’s more important than ever that all students have strong representative voices to raise their concerns and fight for their interests.

Nominations for these roles are now open!

If you want to represent Cambridge students nationally, and vote on policy that relates to all of Higher Education, you could run to be an NUS delegate. Seven NUS delegates will be elected to go to the National Union of Students’ Conference in Spring 2021. Any student can run to be an NUS delegate. Find out more about the role here

If you want to have a say in your education, and represent the students on your course to your Faculty or School, the Students’ Union and the University, you could run to be an Academic Rep. Academic Reps are elected in every part of the faculty, and they play an important part in leading their academic community and ensuring decisions are made in students’ interests. There are two types of academic reps:

  • Subject reps represent students on a course or course area, within a tripos, department or faculty.
  • School Reps are higher level student representatives. School Reps are the voice of students to the University’s six Schools, and maintain links with Subject Reps in their School to tackle problems together and raise issues at a higher level. School Reps also sit on the SU's Student Council.

Find out more about being an Academic Rep, and which roles you’re eligible to stand and vote for on our website

We're also running elections for roles on our Disabled Students' Campaign, Ethical Affairs Campaign and LGBT+ Campaign committees in this year's Michaelmas Elections. Find out more about the roles up for grabs here.
