Although term time can be very busy, it is important to find a balance between your social and academic life.

Here are some tips on socialising and making friends at University:

Join a society where you can meet others that share similar interests. Cambridge has 700+ clubs and societies with interests ranging from sports to music, food, drink, etc. To find a society, click here.

UTILISE YOUR STUDENTS' UNION

Check the What’s On page on Cambridge SU’s website to see upcoming events, socials, forums, training, etc.

Get involved in campaign activities such as the Disabled Students’, BME, Women’s or the Ethical Affairs campaigns. You can find all the SU Campaigns here.

GET TO KNOW YOUR COLLEGE

Attend events and formals to get to know other members of your college.

RELAX AND LOOK AFTER YOURSELF

If possible, use one afternoon during the week for sports and other leisure activities like organising a trip for ice cream or seeing a film.

HELP OUT IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Volunteer for a cause you care about. Check out Student Community Action, a charity that can help you can find projects to volunteer for.

GET TO KNOW YOUR HOUSEMATES

Most postgraduate students reside out of College. If you live in a shared house, you can plan a dinner night or a Sunday brunch with your housemates.

If you are struggling to make friends or find a community you feel part of, then don't hesitate to contact an advisor from the Student Advice Service who can help guide you.
