Cambridge SU Freshers’ Fair: Update

Featured news

Like all other events organisers across the country, Cambridge SU’s event team have been faced with the uncertainty of planning a large scale event in light of Covid-19. We place the health and wellbeing of our student membership as our number one priority when planning an event on this scale and complete comprehensive risk assessments to ensure the safety of thousands of attendees, stallholders and commercial exhibitors. We have received lots of questions about the event and it is great to see so many of you looking ahead to the next academic year, we wanted to use this as an opportunity to give an update on our plans for the annual Freshers’ Fair:

For those familiar with the Freshers’ Fair, you will already know that this is a busy event, therefore we feel it is in the best interests of our membership to cancel plans for an in-person event on the 6th and 7th October 2020. We believe this is the most appropriate course of action, given the circumstances, as we are unable to guarantee adequate social distancing measures across our venue.

Instead, we’re excited to announce we will be launching a virtual Freshers’ programme. The virtual fair will still enable Sports Clubs & Societies to showcase their activities and connect with prospective members; more information regarding how Clubs and Societies can get involved will be available in the coming month.  In the meantime, we recommend ensuring that your society directory details are still correct as we shall be using this data to communicate updates with committees.

In tandem with this virtual event, a newly introduced Refreshers’ Fair is provisionally planned for January 2021 to provide an in-person opportunity to recruit new members. This will complement the free advertising services for Clubs & Societies offered by the newly formed Cambridge SU, such as an events calendar, newsletter features and additional staff support.

Further updates regarding our events programmes will be posted to the Cambridge SU website, email bulletins and social media so keep in touch for all the latest news and developments!
