Student Grievance Project

We are conducting research to understand students' experiences when they have or have had a complaint or grievance with a provision of the University. This can include but is not limited to complaints about University teaching provisions, a University Staff members behaviour, e.g. Supervisor issues, bullying or harassment, or complaint about an Office or Service provided by the University.

What is this project addressing?

The Student Grievance Research Project looks at the types of complaints or grievances you have or had and whether you raised the concern, how you raised it (formally or informally), and your experience of raising it. We’d also like to know if you chose not to raise it and why. All of this information will help the SU to have a comprehensive understanding of a student’s experience and journey when they encounter an issue with the University during their time at Cambridge. This will help inform the SU’s future work and advocate for the University to improve student’s experience during their time studying here.

How can I get involved?

During your time at Cambridge, if you have experienced any issues, past or present, with the University, we would like to hear about it.

Focus groups

We will be running two focus groups, one for postgraduate students and one for undergraduate students. These will take place after the survey closes, and participants will be offered places in the focus groups pending their consent in the survey.

If you have any questions about this project or would like to take part in the focus group without completing the survey, please email: insight@cambridgesu.co.uk

Survey

The survey is now closed

The survey includes four sections:

  1. Demographic information to allow for a further specific analysis of student groups

  2. Student Experience at Cambridge: this is in relation to finding out if the respondent has experienced issues whilst at Cambridge and if they have engaged with the informal process

  3. Making a formal complaint

  4. Anonymous Reporting

The survey consists of multiple-choice questions and the option to provide more details if you wish to. It should take around 15 minutes to complete.
