Volunteer Positions

There are 9 elected volunteer and one co-opted positions,. They are members of the Executive Committee.

Along with the sabbatical officers- President, Vice-President and Welfare and Rights Officer, they have the following responsibilities:

(a) Representation of the Graduate Union Members.
(b) Run Campaigns that promote and protect the interests of the Membership.
(c) The implementation of Policy set by the Student Council. (unless amended or revoked by the Trustees)
(d) The allocation of GU funds to specific projects up to a maximum limit set by the Board of Trustees.
(e) The Executive Committee shall be accountable to Council and shall present a report of its activities at the Annual General Meeting.

Roles :

(a)The Faculty Liaison Officer, who shall be responsible for engaging with Graduate Faculty and Departmental Representatives, act as a liaison between them and the Graduate Union.

 

(b)The International Officer, who shall be responsible for all events, campaigns and projects relating to the promotion and protection of the interests of the GU’s international members.

 

(c)The Families Officer, who shall be responsible for all events, campaigns and projects that promote and protect the interests of families amongst the Members, as well as helping to maintain the Family Society.

 

(d)The Environmental Officer, who shall be responsible for ensuring that the GU’s projects and administration are sustainable and environmentally friendly and liaise with College Green Officers.

 

(e) The Mature Undergraduates Officer, who shall be a non-voting member of the committee, and shall be co-opted. They shall be responsible for ensuring that Mature Undergraduates are properly represented within the GU and the CUSU, run all events, campaigns, and projects that promote and protect the interest of the GU’s non-graduate members and be responsible for maintaining a network of these members.

 

(h)The Women’s Officer, who shall be a self-defined woman whose role is to support the rights and welfare of female graduate students.

 

(i)The Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Officer, who shall be responsible for all events, campaigns and projects relating to the promotion and protection of the interests of the GU’s Black and Minority Ethnic members.

 

(j)The Disabled Students Officer, who shall be responsible for all events, campaigns and projects relating to the promotion and protection of the interests of the GU’s Disabled members.

 

(k)The Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer or + Officer (LGBTQ+) who shall be responsible for all events, campaigns and projects relating to the promotion and protection of the interests of the GU’s LGBTQ+ members.

 

(l)The Open Portfolio Officer who shall carry out campaigns as directed by the council or EC when it does not come under the remit of other officers, or support another Officers remit.

 

All part-time roles have access to an honorarium as a small token to recognise the efforts in your role of the executive committee. This amounts to £230 per term.
