Hearing your Voice: Concerns of Postgrads in Cambridge

last modified Jun 18, 2020 05:05 PM
Two new reports from the GU on the experiences of postgraduate students at Cambridge.

We are happy to share with you two new Graduate Union (GU) reports that address crucial issues our community has been facing in recent times.

GU International Student Experience Report. This report stemmed from the concern that European and overseas students have a lower level of satisfaction and experience a range of issues which negatively affect their success at the collegiate university. Issues highlighted in this document were reported by international students to their representatives including the GU, Middle Combination Rooms (MCRs), faculty representatives and the Students’ Union Advice Service (SUAS). This report explores major issues and provides recommendations to address them.

GU Flash Survey Report on the Impact of COVID19 on Postgraduate Students. The GU is committed to playing its part in the response to the COVID19 pandemic and its impact on postgraduates. To do this, we have been fighting for your rights, having meaningful dialogue with relevant stakeholders of the university and at a national level. We needed to understand your concerns directly via a “Flash Survey”, including your thoughts on the response of the university as a whole. This survey prompted a large number of responses and gave us a real insight and understanding into your experiences and the challenges you face.

We hope these reports will serve as useful tools to support you all, but also sabbatical officers in the year to come, as well as representatives from MCRs, Schools, Faculties and Departments, in their work to fight for the rights and welfare of our community. Please take the time to read these reports and use them in your discussions, and to help address your concerns.
