Sign the open letter to UK funding bodies: Protect PG student funding

last modified Mar 24, 2020 02:24 PM
Sign our open letter to UKRI and the Research Councils calling on them to take action to tackle funding problems and uncertainty caused to postgraduate researchers by COVID-19.

Many postgraduate researchers are facing funding problems and deep uncertainty about their future as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. With the Cambridge Branch of UCU, we've written to the heads of UKRI and the Research Councils to demand that they take urgent action to support the students they fund at both Masters and PhD level. Please sign our open letter and share with your friends and colleagues.

We're asking that funding bodies:

  1. Guarantee an automatic funding extension for all postgraduate students (both Master and PhD level), for as long as this crisis and university closures continue.
  2. Encourage all funding agencies to take a similar approach, ideally coordinating with them to ensure that no student is unfairly disadvantaged by this global crisis.
  3. Clarify the UKRI Grant Terms & Conditions to include any cases impacted by coronavirus, extensions and non-medical intermissions.
