What to do further afield

Miniature Railway Granchester (CB3 9EE): (In the rugby club grounds) Public running days are every second Sunday from April to October inclusive, from 1:30pm (gates open at 12.30pm) to 5:30pm. Add refreshments from the club house or bring a picnic and you have a great family afternoon out. £1 per ticket or £5 for 6. Under 3’s are free.

Milton Country Park (CB24 6AZ): Adventure playground with equipment for all age groups, wildlife observation platforms, fishing spots,  loads of space for picnicking and play, lakes to walk/cycle round, cafe, nature walks, places for outdoor parties, areas for ball games. £2 to park your car.

Wandlebury Country Park (CB22 3AE): A natural adventure playground: explore the Iron Age Ring ditch and 100 acres of woodland and meadows. Space to picnic, play games, walk on gentle chalk hills and enjoy the wildlife and our highland cattle. Garden centre nearby for cake!

Wimpole Hall (SG8 0BW): National Trust Hall and gardens. Hidden amongst the trees, the Adventure Playground is a popular spot with those who love to climb, slide, scramble and swing, while tiny tots enjoy their own play area and mini pedal tractors. Rare breeds animals and seasonal events. It has a great little farm, walks and tractor rides.

Milton Maize-Maze (CB24 6DA): in summer holidays.

Rectory Farm (where Maize is in summer): all year round cafe, pets area and feed the fish as well as a small play area.

Baits Bite Lock, Fen Road, Milton - nice riverside walk/cycle just along the river or up to Waterbeach (the Bridge Chef & Brewer with outside seating) or into Cambridge & a few other pubs en route.

Stourbridge Common: Nice walk by the river plus children's playground. Parking is at the bottom of Stanley Road, which is off Newmarket Road.

Anglesey Abbey (CB25 9EJ): National Trust. Jacobean style house with gardens and a working watermill.Wildlife discovery area. Walks and trails. Climb the two storey treehouse!

Scotsdales Garden Centre (CB22 5JT): Nice café, fish, pets, lots of indoor space to walk round on a rainy day.

Polhill Garden Centre (CB23 7PJ): Café, pets.

Wood Green Animal Shelter (SG19 1AG): Free entry, lots of animals to look at.

Linton Zoo (CB21 4NT): There is a wealth of rare and exotic creatures to see including Grevy's Zebra, Snow Leopards, Tigers, Lions, Tapirs, Lemurs, Binturongs, Owls, Parrots, Giant Tortoises, Tarantula Spiders and many others.

Shepreth Wildlife Park (SG8 6PZ): See animals of all kinds, from tigers to creepy crawlies. Get hands on in our Discovery Centre. There are two indoor soft play areas and a cafeteria, as well as an outdoor adventure play with pirate ship and fort! Plus Keeper talks run throughout the day.

Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey (CB25 9PQ): Discover farming through the ages and learn about the rural history of Cambridgeshire with objects displays and interactives for all ages.

Duxford Imperial War Museum (CB22 4QR): One of the world's most spectacular aviation heritage complexes with 200 aircraft, the American Air Museum and a fine collection of military vehicles plus special exhibitions. The Museum holds four Air Shows, a Military Vehicle Show plus other events.
