Gonville and Caius College (Caius for short) is one of the oldest and largest colleges in Cambridge. It gives you the full, traditional Cambridge experience, while also being friendly and supportive. Originally founded in 1348 as Gonville Hall, Caius has a strong academic reputation and a thriving graduate community, comprising around 280 students from both scientific and arts backgrounds. International diversity is strong within Caius with students flocking here from all corners of the globe, enriching the college’s thriving social community.
The beautiful main college site hosts most of the college’s activities. This is the site of the impressive dining hall and college chapel as well as the MCR itself (in close proximity to the college bar!). Graduates dine together regularly in the gallery of the hall. The MCR is also very active, holding a range of graduate social events throughout the year, including a very popular port night every Thursday during term time. The Caius Graduate Arts Society (CGAS), in which students from all disciplines can present their research to their peers and fellows, also brings the MCR together regularly during term. With two dedicated dining officers graduates also have the opportunity to dine in other colleges during our regular formal dinner swaps. Guest night also encourages graduates to invite friends and family to dine in college and the MCR Christmas Dinner and Summer Extravaganza are high points in the graduate calendar.
Caius is one of the wealthiest colleges and is generous with grants for conferences and travel. The Cockrell building houses the Caius library, an impressive and well stocked resource for all students. All graduates can be housed for three years in college accommodation, located just south of the city centre, and well within walking distance to all areas of the city, and the train station. College accommodation is of a high standard with provision for couple’s accommodation and for those with children.
For more information about the college, visit the college websites through the links above or send us an email. The email addresses of the Caius MCR committee can be found at the MCR website. We look forward to meeting you soon!
