Prospective Students

If you’re thinking of applying to Cambridge to do a postgraduate degree,
information on the colleges, departments, applying procedure and other
things you may want to know before deciding is available here.

There are other sources of information which you will also need to consult, foremost of these being the official Prospectus produced by the Board of Graduate Studies (BoGS). It can be read online, and hard copies can be obtained by post from BoGS. A tape version is also available for blind and partially-sighted applicants. There is also an online guide to courses. This is primarily aimed at current students, but may also be of interest to potential applicants.

To apply, you will need a Graduate Application Pack (essentially an application form and supporting paperwork): this can be downloaded from the BoGS website, and is also included in paper copies of the prospectus. It is also possible to apply online.

The GU also runs an online discussion forum where anyone interested in applying to the University is welcome to ask questions or look for more information. There is a specific “Applying” forum for questions from potential applicants.

The Graduate Union is not responsible for or connected in any way to the application process of the University of Cambridge, so we cannot help you track the progress of your own application or explain (or still less influence!) the decisions that are made. The Union and its members do have experience of applying, though, so we hope that we can provide information and advice of use to applicants. We are also in regular contact with the Board of Graduate Studies, so if you experience general difficulties with the applying process or find parts of the official prospectus or application forms unclear, please do let us know so that we can pass on your comments.

Finally: good luck!
