A selection of the finalists, with the judges

The first round of the 2017 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition was held yesterday.

3MT is an international competition which challenges PhD and Master's students to explain their thesis to a non-specialist audience in only three-minutes, and using just one static presentation slide.

The wide range of academic interests covered by the presentations made for a fascinating evening, and judges Julian Huppert (Director of the Intellectual Forum at Jesus College) and Amatey Doku (CUSU President) were hugely impressed with the quality of all entrants.

However, the highest scoring two MPhil and four PhD entrants were selected to progress to the Cambridge final, to be held in May. The winner of the Cambridge competition will be invited to enter the national competition later in the year.

Thank you to all who entered, and to Julian and Amatey, for their part in a captivating demonstration of the interests and talents of the graduate community at Cambridge.

MPhil finalists: Jason Ginsberg, Natalie Kauf

PhD finalists: Hajime Shinohara, Julia Schaeffer, Anabel Martinez Lyons, Joost Haarsma
