Selwyn is an elegant Victorian college, set in attractive grounds, bordered by Sidgwick Avenue and Grange Road. With a strongly evangelical heritage, the chapel dominates Old Court. Here there are daily services and the excellent college choir sing Evensong three times a week. It is only ten minutes' walk from King's Parade, is close to the University Library and adjacent to the Sidgwick Site, which has long made the college popular with students of the humanities, particularly historians.

Unusually, Selwyn graduates really do form a community and it is from this that college MCR enjoys the reputation of being one of the most active. The MCR Society is well provided for by college and the regular MCR Dinners offer both good value and good entertainment. Additional events include bops and bands, pubcrawls, as well as trips to the theatre, bowling, the cinema or London. In terms of nationality, the community is diverse and the international dinners also prove to be popular.

A well-used graduate common room is stocked with a continuous supply of chocolate and coffee and is equipped with board games, newspapers and magazines. The audio-visual equipment is put to good use, with regular film nights well attended. Other recurring events include research presentations and, for the more cultural, poetry nights. There are also both MCR Football and Cricket teams, with the sports and recreational facilities comparing favourably with those of other colleges. In addition, for those with sea legs, the MCR has its very own punt. Coveted by most other colleges, this also makes most of the undergraduates green with envy.

The college guarantees three years of accommodation to graduates. Self-catering, while not impossible, is not encouraged by the college and all students are required to pay a Kitchen Fixed Charge.
