With access to the elegant graduate common room, Newnham has become a popular venue for lively social events. The weekly formal halls attract graduates from all over the university and are well known for their friendly atmosphere and good food. In addition, graduates of Newnham enjoy a free weekly graduate supper - the ideal opportunity to mix with fellow students and approachable graduate tutors.
Newnham offers its graduates accommodation for three years, sometimes four. 60 rooms with e-mail access are available in the new purpose-built Rosalind Franklin Building, including 10 flats for couples. The remaining 42 rooms are in pleasant Victorian houses with their own gardens situated on the outskirts of the college. Accommodation for students with children is still at the planning stage. All graduate housing has excellent facilities including free use of washing machines. The large and thriving graduate community ensures that Newnham continues to offer its graduate students a supportive living and working environment even during university vacations. The good value canteen remains open throughout the year and is a popular meeting place.
Computing facilities are extensive, and available to graduates 24 hours a day. The library is well-stocked and aesthetically pleasing. Other attractions include a gym, tennis-courts, observatory, music rooms, performance space, and the graduate rowing boat. Unlike more traditional colleges, Newnham encourages graduate involvement at many levels of decision making, from the garden committee to the governing body and everything inbetween.
Newnham's community of women is diverse, international and energetic. It is a space from which you can make the most of your time in Cambridge, whatever your interests are.
